Astrotourism is a type of travel focused on experiences related to astronomy and stargazing. 
As light pollution rises by 10% each year, about 80% of people worldwide are losing access to a truly dark night sky. Clear stargazing is now rare, yet it offers a peaceful escape from our busy lives, letting us disconnect and reflect on the vastness of the universe and our place in it.

 MOROCCO 
Where to go: Morocco offers several prime stargazing locations, notably the Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga, the Agafay Desert close to Marrakech, and the Anti-Atlas Mountains in the Souss Massa region.
What to pack: don’t be fooled, you might be in the desert, but bring warm clothing for observing the stars on those cooler desert nights! 

CHILE & BOLIVIA
Where to go: In Chile, the Atacama Desert, particularly around San Pedro de Atacama, and the Elqui Valley are renowned for their clear, dark skies, making them ideal for stargazing.  In Bolivia, the Uyuni Salt Flats offer expansive, unobstructed views of the night sky, especially during the dry season. 
What to pack: When planning a stargazing trip to these huge regions, it’s advisable to use a stargazing app, so you know exactly where to go for the best views!

NAMIBIA
Where to go: Namibia offers exceptional stargazing opportunities, particularly in the NamibRand Nature Reserve, recognized as Africa’s first International Dark Sky Reserve, and the Sossusvlei area within the Namib-Naukluft National Park, known for its clear, dark skies.  

What to pack: A blanket to lie on (the sand gets cold!) and, if you’re feeling really professional, a red torch to preserve night vision for you and your viewing buddies.
