My unforgettable experience

I’ve just returned from a few days sailing from Barcelona to St. Tropez on board Scenic Eclipse and this incredibly elegant experience completely blew me away! I was in awe of her beauty from the start of the trip to the finish.
The beauty of Scenic Eclipse is that their itineraries are so unique, covering many hidden gems across the globe and allowing you to unleash your inner explorer whilst travelling in complete luxury with a relaxed environment. Although this was a Mediterranean voyage, as one of SixStarCruises’ Expedition Specialists, I was eager to explore and experience what this cruise line had to offer.

On Board Scenic Eclipse
My immediate impression of the ship was that layout had been planned with exquisite detail, making it feel so luxurious and opulent, which in turn made every moment feel special. We arrived and were shown to the Scenic Lounge, where we were welcomed by the Cruise and Hotel Directors with a glass of champagne. It was here that we were informed that the owner of Scenic, Karen Moroney, actually designs the ships herself and it’s safe to say she has exquisite taste!
I was impressed by the size of the stateroom and the storage facilities. I loved the Scenic Slumber Beds, they were incredibly comfortable, and you could alter the positioning with the click of a button to have your head raised and legs elevated. The beds are also equipped with infrared lighting to aid relaxing sleep and a torch for reading. The bathroom was spacious with lots of storage for toiletries and the walk-in shower had a rainforest function. The Espa toiletries were replenished daily, and you had the option to have fresh towels also. One of my favourite features was that the room had its own binoculars, which was great for coming into port to take a good look at the view ahead. I can only imagine how incredible that must be on an expedition cruise.

The dining options on board the ship were vast and I was so impressed by the variety of venues and selection on the menus. Lumiere was by far the most memorable – the French cuisine was exquisite and presented so beautifully. The service was impeccable, the sommelier made you feel like he was looking after your table alone and worked the room beautifully. The food was so incredibly fresh and left you always wanting more, it was Michelin standard and by far the best food I’ve ever experienced at sea.
During the day, we loved Azure Bar & Café; we dined here twice for breakfast and once for lunch as we enjoyed the menu and salad bar at lunchtime, along with the atmosphere. It’s perfect if you prefer a relaxed atmosphere with alfresco tables for dining on the terrace.

Destination Immersion
The shore excursions during this trip were fabulous! The small, intimate groups with local tour guides, who had incredible passion for what they were sharing with you, made all the difference in comparison to tours I’ve experienced before. In Barcelona, we took a tour of Barcelona’s charming Gothic Quarter and the markets – this was a lovely walk up Las Ramblas and to two food markets, where we saw people buying local produce and sampled some of their favourite cuisines.
In Collioure, a beautiful little coastal town in France, we enjoyed a Hike and Wine Tour. The view from the top was stunning, as you were able to see all of the vineyards and the local windmill that used to produce the wheat for the town. The Wine Cellar Tour was fantastic; we were able to sample several wines and I loved the fact that he took us into an old section of the cellar so we could learn about how the wine was preserved in years gone by.
