Spotlight on: South America!
It’s been a record-breaking year for Explore’s South America adventures!

We’ve seen an almost 20% increase in South America travellers this year. A surge of interest in South America is not unique to us – Colombia was named Wanderlust’s Destination of the Year 2025 – but you have been loving this incredible destination, and it’s not hard to see why.

To meet your excitement, our Product team sprang into action launching new tours to match: Upgraded Colombia, Peru highlights, and an alternative Patagonia hiking tour in Chile.

Here we spotlight some of our favourite immersive experience-led highlights of South America.

“I’m thrilled to see so many people interested in discovering the magic of South America. In a world that feels like the sands of geo-politics are shifting almost daily, the region is enjoying a relative period of stability, and with the Pound performing strongly against other currencies, your money goes further in country too. There’s never been a better time to start planning your adventure.”

At Machu Picchu
Arriving at Machu Picchu
Arriving at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate, after a four day trek through the Andes, is unforgettable. It’s not hard to see why this consistently tops bucket lists the world over. The Inca Trail ends here, with the magnificent citadel spread out beneath you – all the sweeter for knowing you arrived here as the Incas would have, on foot.

You need a permit to hike the Inca Trail. Permits are released in September every year – so it’s always worth booking early so we can secure your permit.

Exploring the Amazon Rainforest
Immerse yourself in the wonders of the Amazon. This vast ecosystem is full of wonders – from curious tree frogs, kaleidascopic colours of 550 bird species, 13 species of monkeys and a thousand types of butterfly! Explore by canoe, on foot and through the treetops for the full gammut of biodiversity.

The Amazon spans 8 countries – so you’re spoilt for choice on how to discover it. Choose an extension or as part of your main adventure.

Galapagos underwater
Feel like Darwin in the Galapagos
Unleash your inner naturalist. The Galapagos islands are where Darwin developed his theory for the Origin of Species. Here, you can get up close and personal with wildlife without intruding – snorkel alongside sea lion, turtle, ray and even Galapagos penguins, or stroll the volcanic soil with eyes peeled for iguanas, red-throated frigate birds, and blue footed boobies.

You’ll see different animals depending on the time of year – check the seasonality before you book.

Picking coffee, Colombia
Sip coffee in Colombia
Colombian coffee is unparalleled in its rich aroma and depth of flavour. Nothing beats drinking it here, on a balcony overlooking the plantation where you’ll see the coffee process start to finish, from growing and harvesting to roasting and brewing. The definition of farm to cup.

Did you know? Our new trip, Upgraded – Highlights of Colombia – has premium accommodation.
