Day 1: Fly overnight from the UK to Singapore.

Day 2: One-night 5* pre-cruise hotel stay in Singapore.

Day 3: Board the Eastern & Oriental Express for your three-night journey.  

Board the exquisite green and cream carriages of the Eastern & Oriental Express at Woodlands Station, Singapore. For this very special journey, the train has been given a festive makeover. Settle into your air-conditioned cabin, a sanctuary of cherrywood panelling, Malaysian embroidery and Thai silks.

Admire the lush passing landscapes as your steward serves an exquisite afternoon tea in your cabin. As evening slowly falls, it’s time to dress for dinner. Savour the flavours of locally inspired specialities in the Dining Car, followed by engaging entertainment on board.

Day 4: Kuala Lumpur – Langkawi  

After breakfast in your cabin, soak up the vistas as the train courses past the rice paddies and timeless rural villages of western Malaysia. Following lunch, there is a choice of enticing excursions. Arrive at Arau Station for a car transfer to the jetty, followed by a speed boat cruise to one of Langkawi’s most beautiful beaches. Your glimpse of paradise continues with a boat ride through the narrow channels of Kilim Geoforest Park, where mangrove forests meet coastal karst in an otherworldly natural landscape.

Alternatively, opt for an adventurous discovery of Perlis Geopark and embark on a cycle ride through breathtaking landscapes teeming with primates and birds, before entering an atmospheric former tin mine and unearthing its fascinating history. Choose the final option for an immersion into the rich art and culture of Perlis. Learn to make your own batik, visit the personal collection of an antique enthusiast and prepare your own afternoon tea in a traditional Malaysian coffee shop. Returning to the train, an evening of lively celebrations with local entertainers awaits in the Piano Bar Car, accompanied by a delicious dinner.

Kuala Lumpur

Day 5: West Coast Line – Butterworth  

Today, a merry Christmas is promised as you arrive in Penang Island, Malaysia’s cultural melting pot. Islanders of all religions love a celebration – you’re sure to spot glittering trees and decorations and even hear a carol or two.

Choose from three excursions to make the most of your time in Georgetown. The first is a discovery of the culinary art of Peranakan cooking, where you will visit a spice shop and traditional grocery stores to purchase herbs and vegetables, before trying your hand at making some enticing local dishes. The second suits those with a passion for culture and art, taking you to Georgetown Old Quarter to see stunning temples, a contemporary studio and an opera and puppet house. Lastly, you can choose to explore the city independently, navigating Georgetown’s picturesque streets at your own pace as your driver takes you anywhere you want to go. Rejoin the train at Butterworth for lunch and a leisurely afternoon on board.

Penang

Day 6-7: Johor – Singapore

Enjoy breakfast as you travel through the southernmost state of Johor, known for its beaches and rainforest. Soon, your Eastern & Oriental Express train crosses the Strait to Singapore, where your Festive Malaysia journey comes to a close. Disembark the train with your magical memories.  

Transfer to Singapore port and embark Oceania Sirena for a 10-night cruise. Enjoy an overnight in port and spend some free time exploring this amazing city.

Day 8: Day spent relaxing at sea.  

Day 9-10: Ho Chi Minh (overnight in port)  

Discover the rich heritage of Saigon and the rural Mekong Delta. See the city’s lovely pagodas, colonial architecture and broad boulevards. Ride a local pedicab through the bustling streets; visit the vibrant markets, Chinatown and the fascinating Cu Chi tunnels. Explore the lush countryside of farms, rice paddies and villages with a cruise on the Mekong.

Ho Chi Minh

Day 11: Day spent relaxing at sea. Get ready to bring in the new year in style.

Day 12: Sihanoukville, Cambodia

Think beaches and snorkeling, as Sihanoukville sits on the beautiful island-studded Bay of Thailand.

Day 13: Ko Kood, Thailand.

Explore this idyllic, forested island and its pristine beaches. Visit the giant Buddha at Wat Phra Yai, the elephant camp where these intelligent animals display their work skills and a plantation, where monkeys harvest coconuts. Head to the interior and see majestic cascading waterfalls and how rubber trees are tapped.

Ko Samui

Day 15-16: Bangkok, Thailand.

Indulge your senses in the city’s fabulous golden temples and palaces, the royal barges and the Emerald Buddha. Explore the hidden city of teak mansions and lovely gardens, or learn about Thai culture. The Royal Palace, familiar to many as the scene of the true story of Anna and the King of Siam, is a massive complex of carved and gilded buildings still used by the Thai royal family.

Disembark Sirena and transfer back to the airport for an overnight flight back to the UK.

Day 17: Arrive back into the UK.
