Arancini
Originally from Sicily, these fried rice balls are often served in street stalls across Southern Italy. Golden and the size of small oranges (arancia means orange in Italian) these delightful morsels are often filled with cheese and meat ragu, or a variety of vegetables including mushrooms and aubergine.

Caponata
Imagine a Sicilian version of ratatouille and caponata is it. A stunning sweet and sour combination of aubergines and tomatoes alongside seasonal ingredients, you’ll find different variations across the island. Traditionally served as an antipasto on bread, you can also have it as a salad with lashings of croutons.

Pizza
Perhaps one of Italy’s most famous exports, you can’t come to Italy and not have a slice. While Naples is the birthplace of the Margherita pizza – where its creator served the Queen a dish that mirrored the colours of the Italian flag (tomatoes, mozzarella and fresh basil) – this modest snack can be enjoyed across the whole country.

Tiramisu
One of Italy’s finest desserts, tiramisu is said to have been created in Treviso, an elegant city not far from Venice. While not all tiramisus are created equal – the chances of not enjoying this rich, decadent dessert are slim. Arguably the best can be found in Venice and Rome, but either way, savour every mouthful of creamy coffee, cocoa and mascarpone.
