Late-Summer European Festivals

Paris isn’t the only city with exciting events this summer! In our August edition of the Walks Tours & Devour Tours newsletter, we’re spotlighting four festivals happening across Europe in the upcoming weeks.

San Sebastian

Euskal Jaiak Festival

Euskal Jaiak
Aug 28 – Sep 8

This week-long fest highlights the Basque dedication to preserving their language, history, and traditions. Locals celebrate with traditional dances, outfits, and ancient sports like wood chopping and stone lifting.

One of our favorite moments is Cider Day, or Sagardo Eguna, where local cider houses showcase their products in the heart of the city at Plaza de la Constitución. Cheers to tradition!

Historical Regatta
September 1

The day of the Regatta Storica is one of the most awaited festivals in Venice. Every year, spectators line the Grand Canal as rowboats compete in a fierce race. The event also features a parade of boats and performances by traditional musicians.

Lucky enough to visit Venice during this time? After watching from the shore, belly up to a bàcari (local bar) for small bites and a celebratory spritz.

Tuscany

Chianti Wine Festival

Chianti Wine Festival
September 5-8

If visiting Tuscan vineyards is on your bucket list, early September is ripe with possibilities – notably, the Chianti Classico Expo in Greve

Want to join an organized tour that whisks you off to Chianti country outside of this one weekend? Our perfectly planned day trip from Florence allows you to explore the region’s iconic vineyards, taste exquisite Chianti wines, and gain insights into traditional winemaking from local experts.

Barcelona

La Mercè
La Mercè
September 20-24

Honoring the city’s patron saint, Barcelona’s La Mercè festival has humble roots. What started as a simple religious parade has snowballed into a massive multi-day event celebrating the city and its culture.

Colorful parades and free concerts fill the streets, making this one of the most enjoyable ways to immerse yourself in Catalan culture. La Mercè is also a great opportunity to catch the human towers (castellers) in action!
