Saltwater pools are friendlier to the environment, healthier to splash about in, and require less maintenance compared to traditional pools. They’re also popping up at more and more of the world’s coolest hotels.

Tiny morsels from the world of Tablet

Last week we talked about UK hotels with animals in their names. So it continues. This week, all the rage is about The Newt in Somerset, which is on the receiving end of a summer takeover by Burberry.

Speaking of Burberry Summer, if the Balearic islands are more your speed, the iconic brand is also bringing its Britishness to The Standard Ibiza.

Speaking of summer on islands, Jaws was released 50 years ago this week, shot mostly in Martha’s Vineyard. If you fancy a visit, the Nobnocket Boutique Inn, a Tablet Plus hotel, is well worth considering.

Lima was a big winner in the world of restaurant awards this week. If you’re now considering a trip to the Peruvian capital, consider a few of our favorite hotels: Atemporal, Fausto, and Hotel B. Each in a lovely old mansion. Each Tablet Plus.

Speaking of restored mansions, Kamares Boutique Hotel is as dramatic as it gets. New to our selection, it’s one of the few historic old-world buildings to survive a devastating fire that swept through the Greek castle town of Ioannina in 1820.

Speaking of new hotels in historic buildings, for our money, there aren’t nearly enough of them in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Fortunately, thanks to the one-of-a-kind Inn of The Five Graces, we were able to add one more to our selection.

The longest stay booked on Tablet this week was 14 nights at Nhow London, an irreverent, characterful option close to Shoreditch and Clerkenwell.

All over social media this week: video of a car being driven down the Spanish Steps in Rome. There are easier ways to check in to Inn at the Spanish Steps wethinks. Let’s hope the driver isn’t staying at the Roman Forum next.

Heading north out of New York City this summer? In our current sale, enjoy a 20% discount at Vermont’s youthful, nature-oriented Outbound Stowe.

We didn’t forget about our hotel of the week. La Fiermontina Ocean, on Morocco’s northern shore, is inspired by the short but romantic life of Antonia Fiermonte, a painter and musician who modeled at Villa Medici, regularly attended Parisian salons, and traveled extensively in Morocco.

We love Los Angeles. Now. Then. Always. Don’t be made afraid. Visit when you can. Stay in a great hotel when you do.

“When the man who feeds the world by toiling in the fields is himself deprived of the basic rights of feeding, sheltering, and caring for his own family, the whole community of man is sick.” — Cesar Chavez
