“Guatemalan people are so genuine, warm, and welcoming, and when you combine that with the incredible landscapes, the colors, and the price, I really think this is the most underrated country in Latin America,” says Chin, product innovation manager at Flash Pack.

That’s why we’ve launched Guatemala Uncovered, a new 9-day adventure that takes in what we reckon is the best of the country, in totally unique ways. But why do we love it so much? Let’s hand over to Chin, who spent several weeks there at the start of the year, working on this latest launch.

“Guatemala takes the top spot as my favorite country in Latin America, and there are so many reasons. Firstly, I love that the locals there are so genuine in the way they interact with you – the Pack Leaders would often greet local vendors calling them mami and papi, meaning mum and dad, as a form of affection. It feels really welcoming, and I think there’s a lot of authenticity in the country that’s been lost in some parts of the world as they’ve become so popular.

It’s also the most colorful place I’ve been to, and I learnt so much about Mayan culture by spending time there. It’s amazing that you can tell which community people are from depending on what they wear; there’s so much tradition that still exists and you can see it everywhere. It’s fascinating to see how indigenous culture and modern day life exist side by side, and it’s one of the many reasons why the country feels so authentic.

And in terms of what else you see, it feels like there’s pretty much everything. There are 37 volcanoes, and some of them are huge active volcanoes spurting out plumes of smoke. There’s a colonial charm with pretty architecture and just incredible landscapes. The locals call Lake Atitlán “God Boasting” because of how beautiful it looks – it’s so blue, from the sky to the water. And the sunsets there are even more spectacular. Then there’s the Peten region, which was one of my highlights. Driving into the park and seeing signs for jaguars, ocelots, and tapirs made me feel like I was really immersed in the jungle.

Handily, it’s also cheaper than its neighboring countries, like Mexico and Belize, and you get so much for the money that you do spend – boutique hotels, delicious food, and really lovely, memorable conversations with craftspeople and communities.

I had so many stand-out experiences from my trip, and I’m so excited for this new Flash Pack adventure – the trip is full of unique experiences and meetings, in such a special place.”

Guatemala Uncovered is live right now with savings of $500* – today only – on the first four spots booked on each departure. After today, early bird savings will be $200. Sound good? Check out the full itinerary below.
