Set-jetting with Flash Pack

The TV & film locations that are worth traveling for

Thanks to a surge in binge-worthy box sets, movies, and dramas streamed on the likes of Netflix, “set-jetting” – that’s traveling to the locations where shows are set – has never been more popular. From legendary old favorites to HBO’s latest hit series, the world looks pretty good from home – and even better in person. Like what you see? Get jet-setting and explore these limelight locations with Flash Pack.

Thailand is no stranger to set-jetting: the 2000 release of the Hollywood Blockbuster The Beach put Maya Bay (seen on this Flash Pack adventure) firmly on the map. Next year it’s set to get more screen time with the release of Mike White’s hit HBO series the White Lotus. The satirical drama was filmed earlier this year in Koh Samui and Phuket, with hints of storylines being based around Eastern religion and spirituality. Beyond the crazy narrative, season three is set to show off what makes Thailand a firm favorite for travelers, from long, white-sand beaches to peaceful temples (check it out here). See it for yourself on two very different Flash Pack adventures.

Rich history, natural landscapes, and a glorious coastline has made Italy a go-to for a number of films and dramas, from the Godfather II and III, which was filmed in Sicily’s dramatic capital of Palermo, to the new Netflix series, Ripley, which shows off the country’s Amalfi coast (check it out on this adventure). White Lotus fans may know that season two of the drama took in the plush hotels and beach clubs of Sicily, the ludicrously pretty town of Taormina, and the historic cobbles Noto (which you can explore on this Flash Pack adventure). Discover the filming locations – and so much more – on the below adventures.

Remember that huge 80s film Romancing the Stone, starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner? The other star of the movie was the scenery – the film showed off the country’s jungles and cobbles and colonial architecture of Cartagena. A lot has changed since the film’s portrayal of the country, and traveling here is a safe and exciting experience. Choose from two Flash Pack adventures: the first takes in a unique community project in Medellin that focuses on female empowerment, the incredible graffiti scene in Bogota, and a family run coffee plantation. The second is a slower-paced adventure traveling from Cartagena and along the northern coastline, with time on the jungle-fringed beaches of Tayrona National Park.

A Korean TV boom over the last few years – thanks to smash-hit shows such as The Glory and Squid Games and Oscar-winning film Parasite – has put East Asia’s hottest peninsula firmly on the map. The compact and quirky country is bursting with personality and diverse scenery, from the uber cool capital of Seoul to the healing forests of Jeju – all ready to be explored with fellow Flashpackers by your side.

Game of Thrones fans can feast their eyes on Croatia, specifically pint-sized Dubrovnik, the fictional capital of the Seven Kingdoms, King’s Landing. The city’s crammed with filming locations, from the views of ‘Backwater Bay’ to the ramparts and gates of the 16th-century Old Town. What it lacks in Jon Snow it makes up for with turquoise-hued Adriatic sea views. Stroll the limestone streets and soak in the city’s historical – both fictional and factual – and check out what the rest of the country has to offer, from vineyards and snorkeling spots to forests and waterfalls.
