BEYOND IMPOSSIBLE: HOW AN ESCAPE TO JORDAN MADE ME FACE MY FEARS HEAD ON
Sophie Emler
“As you get older, it’s not unusual to become more fearful of things or cautious in everyday life. I definitely noticed it once I reached my 30s,” says Sophie. “I have great friends who I love but, in recent years, the group I’ve traveled with has become smaller. When I did travel, I was doing the same things – going to nice restaurants, visiting museums – and my list of travel experiences wasn’t expanding. I wondered what happened to the 20-year-old me that wanted to go ziplining in the jungle. Instead, I’d come up with reasons why I shouldn’t do things.” Deciding to take action, Sophie booked an adventure in Jordan, and – with the support of a new group of Flashpacker friends – conquered fear after fear. Get inspired by her story.

Anna Brech
“I’m proud of where I come from, and it’s important for my cooking to connect with my roots,” says chef and social activist Manu Baffara, who was born in Curitiba, Brazil. “My goal is to help local producers – for example fishermen – develop a better life while providing inspiration for people across Curitiba and Brazil itself.” After training at Nobu in Copenhagen, Manu opened her own restaurant in her hometown of Curitiba, before being named Latin America’s Best Female Chef in 2022.
