There are pet-friendly hotels and then there’s Best Friends Roadhouse in Utah. Not just a hotel, but a proper animal sanctuary as well, thoughtfully designed with your four-legged friend first in mind.

Speaking of Utah, it’s hard to do better than a trip to Zion National Park. Unless you decide to stay at Open Sky Zion which, for fans of safari-style tents set amid a landscape of red rocky cliffs, might be a step up.

Speaking of national parks, just down the road from South Africa’s Garden Route National Park is Emily Moon River Lodge, a lovely little boutique hotel filled with eclectic treasures from Africa, Asia, and Polynesia.
